How to Personalize an Obituary Notice
Friday, June 14, 2019
If you have to write an obituary and feel that summarizing a person's life in just a few short paragraphs can be an extremely challenging task, you aren’t the only one. Many people find it very difficult for them to think of what they need to write in an obituary. You know that you wanted it to be a unique and true reflection of the person that has passed. Here are some ways in which you can personalize an obituary:
- One of the first things to do is to start collecting stories from close family members and friends of your loved one. The idea is to learn a little more about various aspects of their life. This will give you a better understanding of their personality and help you write a personalized obituary.
- Take the time to learn everything about the smaller details. Several different things make a person's life and who they are as an individual. While some of these things might seem significant, they can hold meaning to someone at a small event that you are holding. This is the time to make an effort to understand a little more about your loved one and include those details in your writing.
- You can also use examples to personalize the obituary. It's best to avoid any general statements, and rather use specific examples that are a reflection of who that person was.
- If you like, you can also include humor in the obituary. This would be particularly apt if your loved one was very jocular, or even sarcastic.
- You can also include some points about why the person was so special to you and describe the unique features which made them a vital aspect of your life.
