Digital Life After Death - What You Need To Know

Today, it isn't uncommon for many people to pre-plan their funeral. They also peruse various assets and make sure that the family would not have to deal with any complications after their death. In addition to financial assets, there are several digital assets that people in the modern day own. Let's take a look at what these are:

  • Email accounts
  • Social media accounts
  • Online bank accounts
  • E-trading platforms
  • Digital conversations (WhatsApp Skype etc.)
  • Payment apps
  • Information and details stored in the cloud
  • Apple and Google accounts
  • Online shopping accounts

Most people have some or all of these digital assets, and it is imperative that your family have information about what these are. In the event of your demise, your family members would not have a difficult time trying to manage all of these accounts.

What Is Digital Presence?

When you have any digital account, there are specific privacy policies associated with it and the passwords as well as details that you have registered against your account. While some of these assets are transferable, others or not. It is also vital to keep in view that all of the information on these accounts can also be misused if it falls into the wrong hands.

This makes it necessary for you to consider opening a digital wallet that would hold all of this information. Let a trusted family member know the password for it. Also, make it a point to maintain physical records of these accounts as well. Taking these steps will help your family deal with the closure of these accounts in the best possible way, in the event of your demise.
