Cremation vs. Burial- How To Decide Which is Best

Cremation and burials are ancient ways of respectfully disposing of a dead body. Burial remains the most popular choice in the US, but many people have started to choose cremation as well. Both options have some pros and cons, but it ultimately comes down to a personal choice. At Cremation Care Centre, we like to help clients make an informed choice. Here are some factors to consider:

1. What Is The Difference Between The Two?

Cremation involves burning the body and turning the remains to ashes. The funeral home then places the ashes inside a container like an urn and hands it to the loved ones. The family can decide whether they want to scatter, bury, or keep the ashes.

Burial involves burying the body in the ground. The body is placed inside a casket and is intact at the time of the burial. The family buys a burial plot at their preferred cemetery for this purpose.

2. What Is the Cost?

Burials are more expensive than cremations because you need to pay for the casket, burial plot, and contribute towards maintaining the grave. Cremation is quite affordable, especially if you intend to scatter the ashes or store them in your home.

3. Can We See The Body?

It’s a common misconception that mourners can’t see the body before cremation. You can choose to hold a visitation before the cremation and a few hours after the person's demise. The funeral home can also embalm the body to preserve it for a longer period. It is possible to cremate an embalmed body.

4. Which Option Is More Eco-Friendly?

Both options can cause harm to the environment if they're not handled correctly. Embalming the body and then burying it inside a coffin with non-biodegradable materials can cause a lot of pollution. Using polluting fuel during cremation can also harm the environment, but it is a comparatively eco-friendly option.

This information should help you decide which one is best for you. If you want more information on our affordable cremation services, get in touch with us at The CremationCare Centre. You can call us at 416-255-0035 or reach out online.
