3 Tips To Help A Friend Through The Grieving Process

It is difficult to watch a friend suffer through grief and you want to help them as much as you can. Many people hesitate to approach grieving individuals because they don’t know whether their assistance will help. At Cremation Care Centre, we encourage friends to form a strong support network to help their grieving loved one get through their pain. Here are three tips that may work:

1. Offer Practical Assistance

Many grieving individuals are bogged down by different formalities and chores after a loved one passes away. They need some practical assistance like cooking, shopping for groceries, babysitting children, etc. Offer these kinds of practical assistance to ease their burden. Providing meals will also ensure your friends are maintaining a healthy diet. Many tend to skip meals or consume excessive amounts of junk food during their grieving period.

2. Listen to Them

Provide a willing shoulder to cry on and listen to your friend when they need to talk. Sometimes friends offer more comfort than family members because they’re a neutral party. They’re not dealing with the same grief as the rest of the family members. Friends can be particularly comforting for people who have had a fraught relationship with the deceased individual. For example, someone may find comfort with their friends instead of family members after the death of an abusive parent.

3. Distract Them

Sometimes people need a clear break from familiar environments to get on the road to recovery. Take your friend out on a long drive or invite them to spend a day with you at your home. Breaks from ordinary responsibilities can help them relax and improve their overall mental health.
