Obituary of Heather Joy Strucken

Heather Joy Strucken (nee Wilson)

Born in Hong Kong on December 1, 1932, and died in Toronto on October 12, 2024, just shy of her 92nd birthday.

“Nug”, as she was known to her grandchildren, is survived by her children Lisa (Hugh Kerr), Chris, and Emma (John Castelhano), and beloved grandchildren Liam, Fraser, Julia, Mathias and Danielle, her sisters-in-law Marion Hahn, Marjorie and Audrey Wilson, and five nieces and nephews spread across England, Scotland and North America.  She is predeceased by her husband Peter Strucken and her brothers Angus and Dene Wilson.

Heather was a smart, adventurous, strong-willed and fun woman who lived life to the fullest. She was a “say yes to everything” woman who took advantage of every opportunity that came her way.  Although Peter’s relocations to England and Switzerland prevented her from continuing the journalism career she loved at CBC, she kept busy earning a degree from McMaster in Economics and Social Work, teaching computer courses, painting, volunteering in the  community, writing for the local paper and as Chief Operating Officer of the household in Oakville.  She loved a good party and spending time with her family and friends.

Her last years were plagued by dementia but we will remember and miss the amazing woman she once was.

We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Lakeshore Lodge Long Term Care Home for the care she received while living there.

A memorial service will be held when the family can attend.  If we have not contacted you about her death and you'd like to attend the service, please email hjsmemorial24@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
